STATEMENT

Natalia Castañeda approaches the poetics of the territory from cartography, to trace free paths where affection, memory, travel and mysticism converge, in a respectful search for the environment that seeks to restore the essential and spiritual relationship with nature. Her work reflects on drawing and painting, taking these means to the limits with sculpture, to create topographies that are revealed by the route. Atmospheric plots and gestural impulses keep a poetic approach to the trade to immerse themselves in the medium in an unexpected way.

Evidencing symbolic thought is transcendental in the work of this artist. In the exercise of expanding the two-dimensional work towards the encounter with the viewer, she senses “topographies” which are revealed to her along the way and it is here that this symbolic capacity to give meaning and to encode the information intuited until its materialization in pieces of bulk and installations acts fully. On the other hand, so is anamnesis, that rescue of data obtained from the origin and that it wants to bring to the present, appealing to memory and to that capacity or symbolic-abstract instinct that is in the genesis of every work of art, to express with something tangible what is not.
